New Photographs

My current body of work, which is currently in-process reflects a series of images documenting large-scale installations I make in iconic Western American landscapes. The installations are made via various ancient methods of mark making on the land whether it be via petrographs, petroglyphs, or geoglyphs. While the work draws on the forms of both ancient art, and the modern Land Art movement, the designs created and documented in the series represent messages selected from the artist's life and transcribed into Morse Code.

By taking private messages from quotidian domestic life, transcribing them into what is now a dying, abstract form of communication (that ironically was created to be a way of universal communication) and then turning these coded messages into quasi-monumental installations on the earth I am exploring the play between the private and the monumental, the coded vs. the accessible, and the personal vs. the sacred.
